Alexandr Golovin produced a superb first half as Monaco’s No 10, laying on two goals, then was sent off for dissent in the second period. According to Nice-Matin, Simon Adingra struck twice and Denis Zakaria finished the move he started for the third.

Monaco’s high press bit early. On 13 minutes Camara’s backheel freed Vanderson, on 15 Faes’ shaky back-header worried Köhn, and on 19 Lopes saved Faes’ header. Folarin Balogun’s effort led to the opener when Lopes spilled, before Kehrer’s error allowed Machado to tee up Centonze.

Köhn otherwise had a quiet night, claiming Matthis Abline’s shot after the restart, though he was uncertain in the air. Kehrer struggled in duels and even found an opponent with a routine free-kick.

Akliouche started brightly but twice slipped, then exited on 43 for Coulibaly, who had little influence. After half-time Golovin collected two rapid yellows, first for dissent, then for applauding the referee. Camara impressed again since the AFCON, but was forced off on 62, Fati replacing him and missing a one-on-one on 90+4.

Vanderson was aggressive and delivered a dangerous cross for Balogun, Henrique was quieter but supplied a few centres. Faes was largely steady on his return, though could have done more on the conceded goal. The coach’s switch to 4-2-3-1 paid off before the side retreated, the match and referee were both marked 6.
