Gonzalo Plata has declared that Ecuador will be in the World Cup final as national team call-ups are confirmed.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo have released nine players for the tournament, with the winger among them.

Speaking to Ecuadorian media at the national camp, the Flamengo regular said the squad should prepare and pack plenty of clothes, as they would stay until the end. Supporters on social media applauded his optimism.

Ecuador produced their best ever South American qualifying campaign in the pre-World Cup cycle, finishing second ahead of Brazil, who were fifth.

Plata’s national team are in Group E, sharing favouritism with Germany, while Curaçao and Ivory Coast complete the group.

Brazil have called Danilo, Lucas Paquetá, Alex Sandro and Léo Pereira. Uruguay selected De La Cruz, Varela and Arrascaeta, and Colombia named Jorge Carrascal.

The 2026 World Cup will be staged across three countries, with 48 teams able to play in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The tournament begins on Thursday 11 June, and Brazil play on 13 June.
