The Magpies star, along with defender Dan Burn, is part of Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions squad for their friendly against Wales and World Cup qualifier in Latvia this month.

Speaking to the media ahead of the clash with ex-United forward Craig Bellamy's Wales side on Thursday, Gordon explained why he thinks Germany international Woltemade's game resembles that of England's all-time leading goalscorer Kane's.

"I think they do play a very similar style of football, in terms of they want to almost be the quarterback - they want to come in and create, they don't just want to finish the chances like a typical striker would do," he said. "The amount of assists Harry's got over the past couple of years and over his career is outstanding.

"For me, personally, I think it helps me - I think my style suits playing with that style of striker, because I can run off them.

"If defenders want to go and engage with them, I can run off the back, so I think it's really positive for me and I really enjoy it."

In Sunday's 2-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest, Gordon - who netted twice from the spot in the Magpies' Champions League win at Union Saint-Gilloise last week - was substituted before the penalty which wrapped up the win, with Woltemade firing home a superb spot-kick to wrap up the win.

"It was top!" said Gordon of the former Stuttgart forward's fourth goal in black and white. "I was a bit gutted to come off the pitch, because then I couldn't take it!

"He did extremely well. it was a big moment for him and he's in great form, so long may it continue."

Gordon currently has 14 senior caps for the Three Lions, having made his debut in March 2024.

With the 2026 World Cup less than a year away, the 24-year-old says he is "pushing" to make sure he stays in Tuchel's plans.

"At this level you see the squads changing all the time - players come in, players leave," he said. "I think you've almost got to be a bit paranoid that you're not going to get in, because it pushes you even further and you've always got to challenge yourself because the lads that you're competing with are always at the highest level, because that's the level we're playing at.

"I never think I'm nailed in, but obviously it's a massive goal for me and one I'm pushing for."
