Indeed, the German media update (see below) today, details that Nick Woltemade is expected to start for Germany on Friday in their World Cup group qualifier against Luxembourg.

Great news for Newcastle United fans and the Germany national team set-up.

As Nick Woltemade had initially not joined up with the German squad due to symptoms suggesting a viral infection.

Germany also have a second October international, playing Northern Ireland away on Monday (14 October) night, before then a short flight from Belfast to Newcastle for Nick Woltemade to then start preparing to face Brighton away on Saturday 18 October.

Bulinews reporting – 9 October 2025:

‘Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade will be at Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s disposal for Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg.

Woltemade, who joined the German squad late due to a viral infection, took full part in Thursday’s training session.

The 23-year-old is expected to lead the line for Germany after hitting top form for Newcastle in recent weeks.’

The Mag report – 8 October 2025:

The German FA (DFB) has released an official update on Nick Woltemade.

On Monday we found out (see below) that the Newcastle United striker hadn’t joined up with the Germany squad due to a Flu infection/flu symptoms.

Germany have two big World Cup group qualifiers at home to Luxembourg on Friday 10 October, then away against Northern Ireland in Belfast on Monday 13 October.

In an official update (see below) late on Tuesday from the German FA, they said that Nick Woltemade was now on his way to meet up with the rest of the squad and was expected in Herzogenaurach late last night.

The DFB note that it is an unknown as to whether the NUFC star will be able to join in with training on Wednesday morning.

However, whether he does or not, I think this update is positive for Newcastle United.

If the Flu symptoms had developed further, then no way the German FA would have had him travelling and joining up with the rest of the squad.

I think clearly this has been more of a precaution, making sure that whatever Nick Woltemade had been affected by, wasn’t going to be contagious and able to be passed on to the other Germany players.

The striker is in great form and after having got an assist in the last Germany match, a 3-1 home win over Northern Ireland, I think there is every chance Woltemade could get a first ever goal for his country at senior level if he gets on the pitch.

DFB (German FA) official statement – 7 October 2025:

‘Nick Woltemade is expected to arrive at the German national team’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach late Tuesday evening .

The striker from English Premier League club Newcastle United, who has made four senior appearances so far, was initially unable to travel to the German national team on Monday due to a flu infection.

It remains to be seen when Woltemade will be able to return to team training.’

The Mag report – Monday 6 October 2025:

‘Nick Woltemade continued his great form for Newcastle United on Sunday.

The striker making his fifth United start and scoring his fourth goal for the club.

A splendid penalty into the top corner showing top level technique, Forest keeper Sels left rooted to the spot.

However, Nick Woltemade has not joined up with the Germany squad according to this media report.

“Nick Woltemade will not be travelling today due to a flu infection.”
