Grêmio executive Bárbara Fonseca has denied an allegation of a racial insult made by an Internacional supporter after Saturday’s Gre-Nal in the Brasileiro Feminino at the Sesc stadium.

The executive said in a statement that witnesses present confirmed the episode alleged by the supporter did not occur, and characterised the claim as untrue and reckless.

She attended a police station on Saturday night with witnesses and the club’s legal team to provide clarification. The supporter also appeared and filed a police report.

The incident was said to have taken place outside the Sesc dressing room, close to the home section, following a confrontation. Fonseca said she was abused by rival fans at that moment. The supporter is a member of the organised group Camisa 12.

Fonseca expressed sadness and indignation over the episode, which followed Grêmio’s derby win, and said racism is abominable and at odds with her values as a woman of Black origins. She reiterated the need to combat racism and all forms of discrimination.
