Grêmio have ended Edenilson's contract this week, and the midfielder has since joined Botafogo on a deal to the end of the year.

According to Globo.com, an online poll showed 78.19% of respondents backed his exit, while 21.81% did not approve.

Signed in April 2024, he had renewed his Grêmio contract through this season. He sat out the weekend's Gauchão semi-final first leg against Juventude. After the match, coach Luís Castro said the player had asked to leave, citing that he did not feel comfortable in Porto Alegre.

Edenilson made 91 appearances for Grêmio, with nine goals and nine assists.

He had regular minutes and spells as a starter under four coaches since 2024, yet he did not secure the crowd's trust. That echoed his stint at Inter up to 2022, when relations with the stands were also strained despite strong backing from managers.
