Grêmio ‘negotiating’ early contract termination with Felipe Carballo | OneFootball

GZH reports that Grêmio are negotiating an early termination of Felipe Carballo’s contract. His deal runs until December this year.

The current expectation is that the parties will reach an agreement. The 29-year-old is in Montevideo recovering from a serious knee ligament injury sustained in September last year.

Carballo was on loan at Portland Timbers until December and suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his second outing for the MLS side.

The club asked him to report with the rest of the squad on 2 January, but he did not, and he was fined.

Signed in 2023, he played 40 matches for Grêmio, struggled with pubic pain and underwent surgery at the end of that season. He was loaned to New York Red Bulls the following year.

This month’s absence is not his first. In July last year he also missed his scheduled return after his first MLS loan, with the then hierarchy saying he blamed issues with relocating.
