Deportivo Cali have agreed a deal to bring Gustavo Cuéllar back to the club, subject to contractual formalities and medical checks, after Grêmio moved to terminate his contract last week.

According to Globo.com, Grêmio are expected to pay around R$ 15 million to the 33-year-old, equivalent to the remainder of a deal running to December 2026. The club have not confirmed the figure.

The decision to cut ties was taken by the Grêmio hierarchy, who felt there was no longer the right environment for the midfielder to remain.

Cuéllar featured only once in 2026, a 1-0 defeat by São José in the second round of the Gauchão, and was an unused substitute in four other games.

He departs roughly a year after signing, having made 29 appearances. Cuéllar believes his integration from January last year was poorly planned, which he feels led to injuries across 2025. He arrived from Al-Shabab without a pre-season in Porto Alegre.
