Pep Guardiola says the addition of Marc Guehi is “really important” for the club.

The 25-year-old has joined Manchester City on a five-and-a-half year deal from Crystal Palace.

And Guardiola thanked both the club and Guehi himself for making the deal possible.

“He’s a top central defender, played for the national team,” the City boss said.

“Thanks to the club to bring him here. He comes at the perfect age and can play right, left, and (thanks) to him because I know how much he wanted to choose us and to help for the problems we have at the back in the next few months.

“It’s really important that he’s here.

“I’m pretty sure if he had a longer contract with Crystal Palace it would have been impossible.

“But the fact it’s six months until the end of the contract, the situation was easier on those terms.

“Of course Manchester City and Crystal Palace have to agree and the player decides to come, otherwise even in that situation it would not be possible.”

Guardiola also confirmed Phil Foden is fit to play against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday night despite suffering an injury to his hand.

“He has a little bit break in his bone,” Guardiola said. “He needs to have the protection but he’s fine for tomorrow.”

But Oscar Bobb remains unavailable for the clash in his home country, and Guardiola says he is unsure of the youngster’s future at the club.

“He says he’s not fit, so he’s not fit,” Guardiola said on his injury.

Asked whether he would remain at the club, the Spaniard responded: “I have no idea. No idea.”
