Gyokeres: “That’s why it wasn’t a good result” for Arsenal | OneFootball

Viktor Gyokeres said Arsenal were beaten by Bournemouth because they fell short of their usual level and did not offer enough in attack, despite feeling they had control of the game after drawing level.

The striker scored his 18th goal of the season in the 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, a penalty for handball that gave Arsenal a lifeline in the match, for a while at least.

Afterwards, Gyokeres’ assessment was a simple one. Arsenal had not played well enough, and Bournemouth made better use of the moments they had.

“We didn’t come up to our level throughout the game,” he said.

“I think when we scored to make it 1-1, we felt good as a team. We had some dangerous chances before that, and we wanted to take control of the second half, but maybe we didn’t create enough in attack.

“They didn’t create so much either, but they were clinical and they scored on the chances they got.

“That’s why it wasn’t a good result today.”

That leaves Arsenal needing a response quickly, with attention now shifting to Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Sporting, Gyokeres’ former club.

The timing, from his perspective, is not something to fear but something to use.

“We have a lot of important games to come and we need to embrace it and to enjoy playing those games,” he said.

“Like I said, it’s a great game to have in a few days, so we just need to recover now, leave this behind and make a very good performance on Wednesday.”
