Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was on Thursday drawn on the response of Spanish national team boss Luis de la Fuente to his recent criticism.
The ongoing back-and-forth between Flick and De la Fuente has of course dominated the headlines across Spain for several weeks now.
This comes after the former responded to Lamine Yamal suffering an injury whilst on international duty by sniping:
“It’s a shame. He already left here in pain. They gave him painkillers and he played 73 and 79 minutes (against Bulgaria and Turkey). And between games, he didn’t train. That’s not taking care of the players. Spain has the best players and the best national team, but they haven’t taken care of the players and that’s all I can say. I’m very disappointed.”
Drawn on Flick’s claims during his own exchange with the media earlier this week, De la Fuente then appeared altogether unbothered, assuring:
“Today, in my homeland, at the moment I don’t remember what Flick said, nor am I interested.”
Speaking on the back of his side’s victory over Real Oviedo on Thursday evening, it therefore came as little surprise when these latest comments were put to Barcelona’s headmaster.
And Flick did his best to put the drama to bed once and for all, in concluding:
“I haven’t read that. If he says he’s not interested, that’s his opinion and that’s normal. I can accept it, it’s not a problem.”
