Harry Maguire (33) has signed a new one-year contract with Manchester United, with the option to extend for a further 12 months, BBC Sport has reported.
The 33-year-old defender’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, leaving his long-term future uncertain. Instead, United have acted to keep one of their most experienced players, with the agreement understood to include a reduced basic salary but performance-related clauses that could see Maguire earn more if the club qualifies for the Champions League.
Maguire joined United from Leicester City for £80m in 2019 and has made 266 appearances, winning the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup a year later. His time at the club has been marked by intense scrutiny, including losing the captaincy and periods out of the team, but his form has improved significantly under interim manager Michael Carrick.
“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour,” Maguire said. “I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club.”
United’s director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire’s “mentality and resilience”, describing him as a key leader within a young squad.
