During her time at City so far, Yui Hasegawa has established herself as one of the finest operators in world football.

A summer singing from West Ham in 2022, she has since made 95 appearances in all competitions and has proven herself as one of our most influential signings since our professional reform in 2014.

This is due to her combative and classy displays in our engine room which has earned her individual accolades and praise from around the world.

And the Japan international’s City story will continue after she penned a two-year contract extension on her current deal which will keep her at the Club until the summer of 2029.

During Hasegawa’s spell in Manchester, her impressive body of work has been built on foundations of staggering numbers in metrics across the board in the WSL which have been unearthed below…

RELIABLE

After Hasegawa’s arrival at the Joie Stadium, she immediately made her impression felt and quickly became an important cog in City’s machine.

This has been reflected in her appearances per season across each of the past three terms in all competitions.

During her maiden campaign she made the seventh highest outings with 27 but it was the following two seasons where her qualities were consistently relied upon.

As we relentlessly pursued the WSL title in 2023/24 she was possessed our joint-highest appearances with 30 and she was at the top of the charts again last year with 38 in all competitions.

DEFENCE

Across those outings, she has consistently been at the top of the charts for other metrics, especially defensively, as our midfield metronome not only dictated the tempo but also thwarted our opponents from dominating proceedings.

In each of her three seasons so far, she’s ranked high in tackles, interceptions and recoveries among her City colleagues.

In 2022/23 she amassed 38 tackles, 40 interceptions and 159 ball recoveries which was the most in each metric among her teammates.

During her second term she was then joint-second with her 36 tackles but again was at the top of the interception chart with 39 and ball recoveries which she recorded 179 of.

Last season, in what was a more difficult term for the Blues, she again performed valiantly and recorded the most tackles (46), interceptions (36), duels won (103) and recoveries (174).

PASS MASTER

Not only has Hasegawa shown her defensive prowess so far at City, but she has also showcased her classy ability on the ball which is reflected in her superb passing statistics.

Across her maiden term for the Club in 2022/23 she attempted the second-most passes among her City teammates but possessed the highest accuracy when finding a colleague of 88.9%.

Yet again she led in the statistics of passing accuracy in 2023/24 with an even-higher percentage of 89.7% and in each of those seasons across the WSL only Manchester United’s Millie Turner recorded a higher figure.
