The presidential elections at Real Madrid are becoming more dramatic than many expected.

Just days after officially entering the race against Florentino Perez, businessman Enrique Riquelme has now made several eye-catching claims regarding transfers and major appointments behind the scenes.

The entrepreneur revealed that preparations for a possible new era at Real Madrid are already underway.

In fact, he stated that agreements have already been reached with important figures despite the elections not taking place yet.

What was said?

During his latest appearance, the presidential candidate confidently told COPE

“I have signed two international stars,” before adding that, “I have also secured a coach and a sporting director.”

Those comments immediately sparked speculation, especially because Riquelme hinted that one of the players involved could be a current member of the Spanish national team heading to the World Cup.

“I’ve signed a player from the Spanish national team who will have played in the World Cup,” although he stopped short of confirming whether the player in question was Rodri of Manchester City.

When directly questioned about Rodri, Riquelme chose to remain cautious and simply replied, “I don’t know, we’ll see in the coming days.”

The presidential candidate also attempted to connect emotionally with supporters by speaking about the Spanish national team setup

“As a Real Madrid fan, I’m bummed that no Real Madrid player is going to the World Cup with Spain.”

More to the story

Beyond the transfer claims, Riquelme also suggested that structural changes at the club are being planned should he defeat Florentino Perez in the upcoming elections.

The businessman confirmed that discussions with a coach had already been completed before he officially announced his candidacy.

Without revealing the identity of the manager, he stated, “I’ve had my eye on a coach, and we finalised the deal before announcing my candidacy. He’s a coach who already has a team.”

He later doubled down on the scale of his preparations by saying, “In six days, we’ve signed two international stars, a coach, and a sporting director.”

Whether supporters fully believe Enrique Riquelme or not, he wants to position himself as a modern challenger capable of bringing fresh ideas to Real Madrid.

Understandably so, one of the strongest parts of his message focused on transparency within the club.

Riquelme promised, “If I become president of Real Madrid, I will propose an amendment to the bylaws to create greater transparency within the club.

“There are club decisions that are not made with the necessary transparency,” he concluded.
