Hellas Verona have signed 25-year-old Faroe Islands centre-back Andrias Edmundsson from Wisla Plock. In doing so, Edmundsson becomes the first Faroese player to play for a Serie A club.
The left-footed defender joins from the Polish Ekstraklasa for a reported €2.5 million and looks to build on an intriguing footballing CV.
He started his career at hometown club B68 Toftir, before moving to England to join Sunderland’s academy in 2017. There, he spent three seasons playing for the young Black Cats from the Under-18s up to the Under-23s.
After a period in Spain’s fourth tier with Águilas FC, Edmundsson moved to Poland and worked up the divisions.
First, he joined Chojniczanka Chojnice in the Polish third division, where he made 25 league appearances. Then, in the 2024/25 season, he joined Wisla Plock in the league above, ultimately achieving promotion to the Ekstraklasa through the play-offs, in which he’d scored in the semis against Polonia Warsaw.
At international level, Edmundsson has represented the Faroe Islands in the youth national teams and now in the senior national team. He made his debut on 19 November 2022 in a 1-1 draw against Kosovo and has since earned 19 caps.
