Manchester United have finalised the signing of highly-rated defensive prospect Harley Emsden-James, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
Since Sir Jim Ratciffe completed his partial investment in the club and became co-owner last year, United’s transfer policy has radically shifted from signing already-established superstars to recruiting youngsters that can be nurtured to potentially become world-class players.
Over the past few months alone, the Red Devils have signed the likes of Chido Obi, Sekou Kone, Ayden Heaven, Patrick Dorgu, Leny Yoro and more recently, Diego Leon.
In May, it emerged that United had set their sights on Southampton wonderkid Harley Emsden-James and were leading the charge to sign him.
At 16, Emsden-James has already turned out for Southampton’s U18s and is considered one of the most promising central defenders in his age bracket across England.
Combining physical strength with composure and technical ability, he embodies the modern centre-back and has an extremely high potential.
Last month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United had signed Emsden-James. It was stated that the club would pay Southampton a £1 million compensation fee.
The Saints are also expected to retain a 20% sell-on clause, which will enable them to net some money from a potential future sale of the teenager.
Now, Romano has confirmed that everything is in place and Emsden-James can officially be considered a United player.
The Italian journalist took to X and wrote, “Talented 16 year old centre back Harley Emsden James has signed for Manchester United, here we go!”
“PL approve transfer, United recruitment team have been tracking Emsden James closely over the past 12 to 14 months.”
“Man Utd see Emsden James as a major talent for the future.”
Emsden-James is highly likely to link up with United’s U18s, where he will continue his development as he looks to break into the first team.
He effectively becomes United’s third summer signing after Matheus Cunha and Leon.
