“He’s had what he’s asked for” Is pressure on Mikel Arteta justified?

Mikel Arteta is expected to win trophies at Arsenal by the end of this season, with his team having progressed deep into three tournaments.

This theoretically opens the possibility of a treble, but it would be easier said than done, particularly after their defeat in the Carabao Cup final, which ended their hopes of securing a quadruple. The Gunners still have the opportunity to claim several other trophies before the season concludes and are determined to make the most of it.

Arsenal are clearly under pressure, especially as they aim to shake off the “bottlers” label left by previous disappointments. The team believe they have the quality to perform well in the remaining fixtures, and Keith Wyness has suggested that Arteta himself invited this pressure when he requested the club strengthen the squad.

He told Football Insider:

“Look, the pressure is on because the money’s been spent, and he’s had what he’s asked for.

“He has been given the backing, so of course the pressure is on, as it should be with a manager who gets what he wants. There’s got to be an element of pressure, and you’ve got to be able to handle it at the top, that’s what makes the winners.

“And so look, I’ve got no sympathy for him. I mean, he wanted it. You ask any manager, would you like to have that pressure? Of course they would, because it would mean they’re doing well.”
