FC Barcelona are set to face Celta Vigo in La Liga, a very difficult away trip for Hansi Flick’s side. The manager will be keen to close out this period with a win before the squad disperses for the international break.

One of the biggest talking points ahead of national team activity has been the situation of Lamine Yamal. There has been a cold war between the club and Luis de la Fuente over the way the teenager has been used in recent times.

Yesterday, Luis de la Fuente picked Lamine for the Spain squad and reiterated that both the club and the national team need to support him amid his prolonged injury issues. Today, Hansi Flick was asked about the same in the pre-match press conference.

The German manager asked for the same from Luis de la Fuente, claiming that Lamine is not 100% yet and needs to be taken care of. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he said:

“The same thing I ask when he’s here: that they take care of him. He’s changed, he’s better now. He’s training very well, especially in the gym, which is important for the injury he has. We can see him at his best level, though he’s not 100%. I think he needs care, and I believe he’s getting it.”

The game against Club Brugge in the Champions League was a welcome return to his very best for Lamine. The Spaniard tormented the Belgian side almost single-handedly and was the main reason Barcelona scored three goals on the night.

It remains to be seen how De la Fuente takes responsibility in using Lamine, with Spain needing just one point to secure World Cup qualification. Let us hope they do not run him into the ground as they did in September and that he returns in the best possible shape for Barcelona’s games after the break.
