Slot close to special milestone

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is set to reach an important moment in his career when Liverpool face Galatasaray in first leg of the Champions League round of 16.

The match will take place on Tuesday 10 March at RAMS Park in Istanbul. It will mark Slot’s 100th game in charge of Liverpool. So far the Dutch manager has won 62 of his first 99 match with the club.

If Liverpool win in Istanbul, Slot will break the club record held by Kenny Dalglish for the most victories in a manager’s first 100 game.

Important night for Liverpool stars

The match could also bring several milestones for Liverpool players. Mohamed Salah is expected to make his 81st Champions League appearance for Liverpool which would move him past Jamie Carragher (80) as the club’s record appearance holder in the competition.

Salah is also one goal away from becoming first African player to score 50 goal in Champions League, another possible historic moment for the Egyptian star.

Meanwhile Dominik Szoboszlai could set a new club record if he scores or provides an assist. Doing so would mean he has contributed to a goal in seven straight Champions League matches, something no Liverpool player has done before.

Other records on the line

Several other Liverpool players are close to personal achievements. Cody Gakpo needs one more goal to reach 50 goal for the club, a milestone that would make him the 58th player in Liverpool history to reach that number.

In defense, captain Virgil van Dijk has played every minute of Liverpool’s Champions League campaign this season showing his importance to the team.

Liverpool also arrive with strong European away form. The team has won nine of their last 11 away matches in Europe and they have taken victory in the away leg in nine of their previous 12 Champions League round of 16 ties.

Tough test in Istanbul

Despite Liverpool’s strong European record, the trip to Turkey will not be easy. Galatasaray are unbeaten in their last seven home matches at RAMS Park and have won their last five game at home in all competitions.

The Turkish club already beat Liverpool 1-0 at the same stadium during the league phase in September 2025. Their striker Victor Osimhen who has 18 goal this season, scored the winning penalty in that match.
