Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers has revealed Reece James as the player who’s surprised him the most.

James is a product of Chelsea’s famed Cobham academy and was made club captain by Mauricio Pochettino two years ago.

The 25-year-old has won the Champions League with the Blues, and lifted both the Club World Cup and the Conference League last season.

Morgan Rogers surprised by Reece James

James has been plagued by injury issues over the past few seasons, but since returning from his latest setback he’s managed to stay fit.

This represents the longest period James has stayed fit for over the past few seasons, which is great news for both Chelsea and the player.

James is one of the best right backs in the world when fully fit, and has been named by several top wingers as their hardest opponent.

Villa star Rogers is the latest player to praise James, and the attacker named the England international as the player who’s surprised him the most.

“I’ve said this before and I’m gonna say it again, Reece James was the one for me,” he said as cited on X.com.

“Not that I knew he wasn’t good, because he’s won the Champions League, and he’d been in Chelsea’s team for ages.

“You don’t quite realise when you go and train how he’s got absolutely everything in his game.

“I know he’s been unfortunate with injuries and had a tough time but the fact you can see him fit and see how good he is, it’s honestly scary.”

Rogers a Chelsea transfer target

Rogers is team-mates with James for England, but there’s a possibility the duo could have been team-mates at club level this season.

Chelsea were linked with Rogers throughout the summer, but a bid never went in, and it’s unclear if he remains a target for the Blues or not.

Rogers joined Manchester City as a youngster, before he was sold to Middlesbrough, and then ended up joining Aston Villa.
