AS reports that Pepelu, the Valencia midfielder schooled at Levante, was met with hostility at the Ciutat de València. Home fans targeted the former Orriols favourite from the outset.
Chants of "Pepelu es una rata" greeted him, then followed when the announcer read his name in Coberán’s line-up, and every touch drew a unified whistle from the Levante crowd.
Outside the ground, Levante Originals handed out mock dollar bills printed with "Pepelu Judas". The stands also rang to "Es un choto el que no bote" and "Peter, quédate", both aimed at Valencia.
In the Central Stand, Levante supporters created a club-coloured mosaic as the teams emerged, moments before kick-off in the Valencian derby.
Meanwhile, the Levante Fans group displayed a banner asserting the club’s seniority in the city, "Decano de la ciudad", flanked by the crests of Levante FC and Gimnástico FC. The two clubs merged in 1939 to form today’s Levante UD. The banner kept the 1909 founding date, with the FFCV recognising Levante as the city’s oldest club.
