Eric Ramsay had an extended meeting with Shilen Patel after the Baggies' draw on Tuesday, leading to his departure.

Eric Ramsay's dismal time in charge of West Bromwich Albion was brought to a premature end on Tuesday evening as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to relegation rivals Charlton Athletic.

The Baggies have had an incredibly poor campaign, and they are currently just a point above the drop zone, and a further three points behind Blackburn Rovers, who sit ahead of them in the Championship table after 34 games of the 2025/26 season.

Ramsay endured just 44 days at the helm at The Hawthorns, and in that time he failed to win a single one of his nine games in charge, leaving the West Midlands outfit severely threatened by the drop and potentially a first campaign in the third tier since 1993.

The 34-year-old will go down as one of the most forgettable managers in West Brom's history, and owner Shilen Patel was left with no other choice than to part ways with the ex-Minnesota United boss after yet another winless Championship fixture.

James Morrison has taken charge of the Baggies for the second time this season following the departure of Ramsay, and he will be hoping to rectify some of the issues that the team had over the course of the last month-and-a-half as soon as possible.

For their now sacked head coach, it was a decision that he perhaps saw coming after the final whistle. According to Lewis Cox, Shilen Patel and Ramsay had a half-hour meeting following the draw, and just a few moments later, the decision to part ways with him was announced on the club's social media pages.

From his eight league games in charge of West Brom, his side won zero, drew four and lost the other four. They scored just four goals and conceded 18. Without Leicester City's point deduction, Albion would be in the Championship bottom three right now.

Nevertheless, there is still plenty of time for Morrison to help turn the club's season around and push them out of danger in the coming weeks and months.

There's no denying that the decision to bring Ramsay in was the wrong one, especially when it is considered just how safe West Brom looked before his arrival, and now Patel has to get his next choice for permanent head coach right.

The Baggies have a new record holder for the shortest term in the dugout, with the 34-year-old's 44-day reign taking the record and totally eclipsing Tony Mowbray, who lasted just over three months in charge of the club from January to April last year.

No other permanent West Brom manager has ever overseen fewer games than Ramsay's nine, with Pepe Mel's 17 a close second, and this is a chapter that needs wiping from the memories of all those involved at The Hawthorns.

However, relegation will leave a lasting stain on a club that has enjoyed over 30 years outside the depths of the third tier.
