Birmingham City signed Jack Robinson this summer to replace Krystian Bielik

Birmingham City enjoyed a busy summer transfer window which saw a number of players walk in and out of the doors at St. Andrew’s.

Blues arrived in the Championship on the back of a record-breaking 2024/25 League One campaign, which saw them clinch the title with 111 points.

Eager to continue in ambitious fashion, the Second City side wasted no time in the transfer market as they looked to bolster their squad appropriately for second-tier football.

In came the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Marvin Ducksch and Taylor Gardner-Hickman for transfer fees, whilst others such as Tommy Doyle, Patrick Roberts and Eiran Cashin joined on loan.

This business hasn’t looked to have paid dividends for Birmingham yet, as they sit 16th in the Championship after nine matches, which isn’t where Chris Davies’ side were expected to be positioned following their summer of recruitment.

Another notable area that Blues made changes in during the window was central defence, as Krystian Bielik was sold to West Brom, with Jack Robinson signed from Sheffield United in his place.

Following this swap, Football League World have compared how much money both players are earning following their respective summer switches.

During the opening stages of the 2025/26 campaign, defence has been an area Birmingham have been average, conceding 11 times thus far whilst scoring just eight.

Robinson was brought in to shore up Davies’ backline and commands an estimated weekly wage of £17,500 to do so, according to Capology.

Only four players at St. Andrew’s are believed to be earning more, which highlights how much money Blues are forking out on the former Sheffield United defender.

However, his wage isn’t as high as Bielik’s reported earnings, with Capology estimating that the Polish international is taking home £25,000 per week.

This is again bettered by just four players in the West Brom squad and is a significant amount more than what Robinson is being paid.

Bielik was a solid player during his two seasons at St. Andrew’s and featured prominently throughout, so it was somewhat of a shock to see him sold to West Brom this summer.

However, if Davies didn’t view the Pole as one of his starting defenders, the choice to sell him for a fee in excess of £1 million was a smart choice.

This allowed Blues to bring money into the club for a player who wasn’t at the centre of their plans, and sign Robinson to cover the same position for less expense.

Therefore, Birmingham’s decision to reorganise their defensive ranks looks to have been a smart one, especially from a financial point of view.
