Blackburn Rovers are set for a cash windfall of at least £9.4 million amid Liverpool stepping up transfer interest ahead of the summer window...
Blackburn Rovers' current priority is survival in the Championship, but plans will need to be put in place for the summer transfer window where Liverpool could give them a helping hand.
The Blackburn Rovers squad is not currently littered with high-value assets, with the club needing to sell if they are to reinvest and build towards a team capable of pushing up the Championship table and well away from danger.
Todd Cantwell may command a large fee, while long-term investments like Mathias Jorgensen, Andri Gudjohnsen, and Ryan Alebiousi are assets who will only appreciate in value while they are developing.
A number of clubs have gained promotion by selling to buy, which feels likely to be Blackburn's primary way of progressing. They have cashed in on some of those in recent years, including the likes of Adam Armstrong, Ashley Phillips, and Ben Brereton Diaz.

Arguably the player who has reached the highest heights already whom Blackburn sold in the last few years is academy graduate Adam Wharton. The midfielder is now a Crystal Palace player and he has developed rapidly at Selhurst Park.
Wharton has adapted to life in the Premier League with remarkable ease since joining Palace, with it largely being because he hasn’t had to change his game. The composure, press resistance, and progressive passing he showcased at Blackburn Rovers have translated seamlessly.
He was able to run games at Championship level and is doing so again now, just at a higher tempo and intensity. He continues to dictate play from deep, break lines and control possession, but now against elite opposition.
That consistency has also been recognised internationally, with Wharton stepping up to perform at international level with England and underlining just how naturally he has made the jump. Palace now want at least £80 million for Wharton, per Alex Crook of talkSPORT.
He also states that Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race. Meanwhile, TEAMtalk have suggested Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint Germain have all registered interest as well.
The excellent news for Blackburn is that Wharton's sale could land them a cash windfall, as it’s understood that Blackburn are set to receive 15% of any profit Palace earn from a sale of Wharton.
It’s been reported that the Premier League side signed the midfielder for £17.5 million back in January 2024 following his strong performances at Ewood Park. If he leaves for £80 million, Blackburn will receive 15% of that £62.5 million — that is around £9.36 million.

It's clear by now that Wharton has an exceptionally high ceiling, with the tools to develop into one of England’s most well-rounded and dominant midfielders. The reason the elite now want him is due to his ability to dictate tempo and continually break lines with precision.
It already places him above many peers, and as he refines his defensive awareness and the more physical side to his game. He may never be an elite goalscorer but his all-round game will only strengthen.
There is a maturity to his play that suggests he can anchor midfields at the very highest level. The appearances are already starting to rack up for the 22-year-old as well, per the above.
For Blackburn, there should be immense pride. Producing a player of Wharton’s calibre is a testament to their development pathway, and even after his move to Crystal Palace, his progress reflects brilliantly on the club.
