The Irishman’s name is reportedly on the shortlist of eight candidates and would undoubtedly be a controversial choice that would divide opinions among the support for matters away from the football, which Conall McGinty outlined on The Celtic Star last week

Keane is currently Ferencvaros manager and after winning the title last season he currently has them riding high in the Europa League, currently in third place just two points behind leaders FC Midtjylland, who swept Celtic aside in comprehensive fashion on Thursday night.

After his side’s win over Bulgarian side Ludogorets on Thursday evening, Keane directly addressed his name being linked with Celtic, who he had a short loan spell with during Tony Mowbray’s time in charge.

“I can’t do anything about the speculation, but maybe it means I’m doing my job well here and that’s the most important thing,” Keane observed, as reported by Scottish Sun.

He added: “I’m happy here (at Ferencvaros). I don’t really want to react to every rumour, but I played football for many years and whatever club I played for, everyone would always talk about where I would go next. So I don’t worry about it. I focus on one thing and that’s Ferencvaros.

Look at the unity of the team and the relationship with the supporters here. After the full time whistle, the fans kept calling me over. It was impressive, it felt good and meant a lot. Their encouragement and support throughout the match was fantastic.”
