RC Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser (21) could be called up by Didier Deschamps as France’s third-choice goalkeeper for the World Cup, according to reports from RMC Sport.
Whilst Mike Maignan (30) and Brice Samba (32) are expected, barring a major surprise, to be named by Les Bleus‘ manager, who will announce his squad this Thursday, the young Sang et Or player could capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding the identity of the third-choice keeper to make the most of the situation, at the expense of Lucas Chevalier (24), Alphonse Areola (33) or even Hugo Lloris (39), whose potential return to France has recently been rumoured.
Recently named Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Season, Risser is no stranger to the national team, having represented France since the Under-16s. Within the squad, his profile and consistent performances would make him a viable option in the eyes of some of his supporters. Franck Raviot, the France national team’s goalkeeping coach, has been watching him closely on several occasions in recent months.
