Maxence Lacroix was full of praise when asked about former Crystal Palace team-mate Eberechi Eze after he was crowned a Premier League champion with Arsenal.
The French international revealed he had been in touch with his former team-mate, who joined Mikel Arteta’s side in the summer window and became a crucial part of the title-winning side.
“I sent him a message when I saw Manchester City missed the chance to continue the journey,” Lacroix said following City’s draw with Bournemouth, which guaranteed Arsenal the title before the last day of the season.
“I was just happy, I was just really happy. Why? Because we spoke a lot about Arsenal, that it was one of his favourite teams,” he added. “He signed for Arsenal, he did a good season and they are in the final of the Champions League.
“They’ve won the league for the first time in 22 years so it’s beautiful and I’m just really happy for him.”
The two players will meet on the last day of the season, as Selhurst Park will host Arsenal with both clubs keeping one eye on their upcoming European finals. Palace are due to meet Rayo Vallecano in the UEFA Conference League, before Arsenal take on Paris St-Germain in the Champions League.
It has been confirmed that the Gunners will receive their domestic trophy following the game in South London though, which Lacroix pointed out might not be popular with the home crowd.
“It’s going to be special but I would tell him to not do it [enjoy] too much because it’s our house,” he admitted. “He’s not in the house anymore but it’s beautiful for him and I’m really happy.”
