Liverpool have reportedly taken a major step towards a genuinely sensational signing. Now to get it over the line.

There's no question that Liverpool need to sign a winger. There's also no question that they actively want to as Yan Diomande was their primary target heading into this transfer window.

Diomande, however, decided he'd rather wait out a move to Paris Saint-Germain. He'll remain with RB Leipzig for the upcoming season before likely heading to France.

It leaves Liverpool scrambling for a new option in what's a terrible market. There really aren't any readily available right-wingers who can make an immediate impact and any further target will be a bit of a gamble.

So with that in mind, there's really no better option than PSG's Ibrahim Mbaye. The Senegal star is available to buy, says Fabrizio Romano, as he's looking to play more.

Liverpool could offer him that - and it seems they're willing to. Twitter account @AcademyNoahh, someone we trust, claims that the Reds are in fact in the market for Mbaye.

He's careful to get across that Liverpool have not pushed forward on a deal yet, but there is interest. We imagine that interest escalates quickly if he's truly available from PSG.

Mabye is one of the best-possible options for Liverpool this summer, even if he still is only 18. He can play on either side and was a top-10 winger under 23 in Ligue 1 last season - and no one else was under 20 on January 1st. Mbaye was still 17.

It creates a natural development plan with Rio Ngumoha. In fact, the pair are the only under-18 wingers to play 500 minutes across Europe's top five leagues last season.

This is an opportunity Liverpool really can't afford to miss, given the market is what it is. Mbaye is a fantastic player who just got World Cup experience and no matter the price here, it's one that's difficult to see going wrong.
