Lyon will stay in Vigo overnight and train there on Friday morning, with the airport closing at 00:30 and recovery prioritised before Sunday’s trip to Le Havre at 17:15. They visit Celta Vigo in the Europa League last-16 first leg on Thursday at 21:00.
According to L'Équipe, Lyon fly on Wednesday afternoon after a morning session at Décines-Charpieu. Paulo Fonseca favours training at home on the day of travel.
After a team lunch they depart Lyon Saint-Exupéry for a two-hour flight to Spain’s north-west coast. The delegation is about 50 strong, including 23 to 25 players.
Their return to Lyon-Bron is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Lyon travel by air about 90% of the time. When feasible the branded bus is used, as for Berne on 22 January. It did not go to Serbia for the Maccabi Tel-Aviv game in Backa Topola on 27 November.
The coach carries about one tonne of equipment. Lyon have more than 20 years’ travel expertise, with OL Voyages created under Jean-Michel Aulas, sold to Marietton in June 2017, and still working closely with team manager Julien Sokol on hotel selection.
Security is provided by two bodyguards from the club’s external provider. Abroad, UEFA handles the escort. The club sources food locally after the chef’s arrival on Tuesday, and a full-time nutritionist has been in post for four seasons.
