Inter executive Giuseppe Marotta has dismissed any concerns about Luka Modrić’s arrival at Serie A rivals Milan, describing the Croatian as an inspiration for the next generation.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Marotta said: “The arrival of Modrić is not something that worries us. He is an extraordinary champion — our grandchildren fall in love watching him play. At 39, he’s still able to express himself at very high levels, and that’s something to admire.”

Marotta then broadened his thoughts to the league’s competitiveness, adding: “Serie A is no longer the Eldorado it once was. Our resources are limited, and we have to be creative. Clubs abroad, especially in England, have very different financial power.” He continued: “We have to look for balance through planning and youth development — that’s the only way forward for Italian football.”

Modrić’s start to life at Milan has quickly silenced doubts about his age. The veteran midfielder has showcased his trademark elegance and composure, dictating play and lifting the tempo in crucial phases. His performances have reminded Serie A audiences why he remains one of football’s enduring greats.

He also impressed in the Rossoneri’s goalless draw against Juventus at the weekend and previouly scored a vital winner in their 1-0 win over Bologna some weeks ago. Beyond the goals, his ability to keep play ticking for Max Allegri’s side has driven the club forward this season.
