Inter Milan Coach Insists Italy Star Has ‘Long Future’ At Inter Despite Playing Time, Backs Captain To End Goal Drought | OneFootball

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi insists that Davide Frattesi has a “long future” at Inter Milan despite his relative lack of playing time.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after today’s Serie A win over Como. He also backed Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez to end his goal drought.

Frattesi did not start in this evening’s Serie A match against Como.

Early predictions indicated that the 25-year-old would be in the lineup. This was due to an injury to Nicolo Barella.

However, Barella recovered very quickly from his injury. He was ready to go straight back into the starting eleven.

Therefore, Inter coach Inzaghi favoured the 27-year-old.

But even when Barella came off, the Nerazzurri coach decided to put Piotr Zielinski on in place of him instead of Frattesi.

This did not seem like a massive vote of confidence in the 25-year-old.

However, that’s not how the Inter coach sees it.

Asked if Frattesi has a long future at Inter in spite of his playing time, Inzaghi said “Absolutely, yes.”

“Then, at Inter, as with many teams, there’s a lot of competition for places.”

“But he’s doing well,” Inzaghi said of Frattesi. “On Thursday he played ninety minutes, along with Zielinski, and he did very well.”

“Then, I have to make decisions who starts.”

“Today, Frattesi and Taremi played six minutes, as well as possible,” Inzaghi said.

“They did what we asked of them.”

“They have to keep doing what they have been.”

“And then I have to rotate the players. We have to keep going the way we have been, without looking at the table but just thinking one match at a time because we’ve been playing a lot.”

Meanwhile, Inzaghi said that Inter “knew” how tough Como would be to play against.

“They deserve congratulations, because they had a great match.”

“But they were up against an Inter who stayed switched-on the whole time, and allowed very little.”

“We weren’t quite the same team we usually are in the first half,” Inzaghi noted.

“The pitch made things hard for us because it wasn’t perfect.”

“But we played a mature match, as a team,” the Inter coach insisted. “And in the second half we knew that if we picked up the pace we could win.”

Inzaghi Backs Lautaro Martinez To End Goul Drought

Meanwhile, Inzaghi gave his thoughts on the lack of goals from Inter captain Lautaro Martinez, particularly in recent weeks.

“It’s just a moment,” he insisted. “These moments can happen for a striker.”

“I’ll have to watch the match carefully,” Inzaghi said. “But I have to say, in Rome [against Lazio] he was one of our most positive players.”

“Then, he’s a striker. He wants to score goals, but he and Thuram have to keep working the way they have been.”

“We ask a lot from our strikers,” Inzaghi noted. “We try to change them up as much as possible.”

“I’m thinking of Taremi and Arnautovic, who did the same job against Udinese.

“I told him that it’s just one of those moments,” Inzaghi said of Martinez. “But he had chances tonight as well – he should worry if he doesn’t get any.”

“He has to keep going like he has been, and he’ll get back to scoring like he always has.”

Meanwhile, Inzaghi spoke about the goalscoring of Marcus Thuram. “He’s done well working with his teammates and the training staff.”

“He always does well in training. He’s adapted to our principles of play, and keeps improving.”

“Now he knows he can’t stop,” Inzaghi said of Thuram.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi noted that “We try to rotate our players.”

“Particularly with the Club World Cup, we have so many matches close together.”

“We’re alternating our players, but we’ve had some issues in defense with players missing.”

“Today Stefan de Vrij gritted his teeth after he hadn’t finished training yesterday,” Inzaghi noted. “And he gave us a lot in the last twenty minutes.

“The goal is to get everyone fit so we can rotate more. Carlos Augusto, Bisseck, Bastoni, and Dimarco have been playing a lot.”
