Inter Milan travel to Rotterdam to take on Feyenoord in the Champions League round of sixteen this week.

The Nerazzurri will face a tough round of sixteen tie. And they will likely feel that the first leg is a particularly difficult ask, as it comes away at an intimidating stadium,

Feyenoord have gotten big results against the likes of AC Milan and Bayern Munich in front of their fans this season. They also managed a memorable 3-3 comeback draw away to Manchester City.

These are not the circumstances in which Inzaghi would like to have an injury crisis on his hands.

But that is exactly what the Inter Milan coach is dealing with.

The Nerazzurri had already been without three wingbacks prior to yesterday’s match against Napoli. All of Matteo Darmian, Carlos Augusto, and Nicola Zalewski missed the top-of-the-table clash.

It is unlikely that any of that trio will return for the first leg against Feyenoord.

Then, to make matters worse, Federico Dimarco also came off with an injury yesterday.

That left Inter with just one senior wingback – Denzel Dumfries – available.

Inzaghi had to play Dumfries out of position on the left flank for much of the second half of yesterday’s match.

And on the right flank, Benjamin Pavard had to push up. Hardly ideal.

Meanwhile, midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu also had to come off with a painful knock.

At the moment it’s unclear whether Dimarco or Calhanoglu will be able to return for the first leg against Feyenoord.

If they can’t, then Inter’s squad will be looking very threadbare for that high-pressure showdown.
