Inter Milan take on Fluminese in the round of sixteen in the Club World Cup today.

At stake is a place in the quarterfinals against either Manchester City or Al-Hilal.

And the Nerazzurri will consider the possibility of taking on Al-Hilal a particularly enticing one.

It was only a few weeks ago that Simone Inzaghi made the decision to leave Inter Milan and join Al-Hilal.

The rumours had been swirling that the Suadi Pro League club were in talks with the 49-year-old before Inter’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Therefore, it is hard for the Nerazzurri to avoid the bitter feeling that Inzaghi was distracted heading into that final.

There is little doubt that the primary factor in Inzaghi’s decision to leave was money. The former Lazio coach was hardly lacking for cash at Inter, but the Nerazzurri could never get anywhere near Al-Hilal’s offer.

Therefore, it would be fair to say that Inzaghi’s decision didn’t go down terribly well at Inter.

And if the Nerazzurri are to beat Fluminese today, then they will certainly be watching the subsequent semifinal match closely.

If Manchester City are to beat Al-Hilal, then inter can have the satisfaction of having gone further than their old coach.

However, if the Saudi Pro League club are to spring an upset, it would give Inter the opportunity to get their hands on Inzaghi’s team up close, a prospect for direct revenge.
