Inter Milan are waiting until the eleventh hour to sign a defender this summer, with Fenerbahce’s Yusuf Akcicek an option.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Before the summer started, the expectation was certainly that Inter would sign a defender.
The likes of Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi will turn 34 and 38 this season respectively.
Therefore, Inter can hardly rely on that aging pair for much longer.
Furthermore, there are doubts about the depth on the left side of Inter’s defense.
Alessandro Bastoni is of course the first-choice starter. Furthermore, Carlos Augusto and Yann Bisseck have proven versatile enough to play in that role.
However, particularly after the exit of Nicola Zalewski which will push Augusto into the wingback role more, Inter will want a more regular backup for Bastoni.

According to Tuttosport, Inter are indeed planning to sign a defender.
However, the Nerazzurri are not rushing things. Even with only a week left to go.
Inter are keeping an eye on how things develop on the transfer market.
Inter’s intention is to wait for the most suitable opportunity.
For example, the Nerazzurri sounded out a move for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet. However, the €50 million asking price for the Frenchman thoroughly put them off.
On the other hand, Inter offered €16 million for Fenerbahce defender Yusuf Akcicek. The Turkish club turned that bid down, wanting €20 million.
Therefore, Tuttosport report, Inter could end up deciding to up their bid for Akcicek in the last few days of the transfer window.
