Inter will be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer, as their relationship with Yann Sommer will end naturally, and have recently reached out to the entourage of Emiliano Martinez to test the waters about his availability and demands, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The veteran makes about €10M per year in Birmingham and would have to shave his salary to head to San Siro. The highest-paid player in the Nerazzurri squad is Lautaro Martinez, who pockets €1M per year less.

Inter would also need to bargain with Aston Villa, as the goalie’s deal runs out in 2029. He has been tipped to depart in the last couple of windows. He has been linked in particular to Manchester United. The 33-year-old has racked up 233 appearances with his current club. He has 57 caps with Argentina under his belt and won the World Cup in 2022.

The Nerazzurri have also been attached to Guglielmo Vicario, but they are monitoring younger shot-stoppers too, like Cagliari’s Elia Caprile and Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu. As for Sommer, he could go back to one of his previous clubs, Basel, to end his career, Swiss publication Blick reports (via Tuttomercatoweb).

Our Take on Inter and Martinez

Their management values experience in such a delicate role, as evidenced by the fact that they signed the former Bayern Munich goalie when they cashed in on André Onana. Though, it remains to be seen whether their ownership, which is different from the previous changing of the guard, is on the same page. They have prioritized talents in other positions. The investment to have the Seleccion star for only a few years could be too cumbersome to their liking.
