Inter Milan have begun exploring the conditions for a potential move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, with the Argentine’s long-term future in the Premier League now increasingly uncertain.

According to fresh reporting from Sky Sports, the Nerazzurri have added Martínez to their shortlist as they prepare for what could be a major reshuffle in the goalkeeping department this summer.

Martínez, now 33, has been one of the most consistent and influential goalkeepers in English football since joining Villa in 2020.

A World Cup winner and widely regarded as one of the top shot-stoppers in Europe, his performances have repeatedly attracted interest from elite clubs.

That interest escalated last summer when Martínez actively pushed for a move to Manchester United, only for the Red Devils to pivot and sign young Belgian keeper Senne Lammens instead.

While Martínez ultimately remained at Villa Park, the situation surrounding his future has not settled.

The Midlands club are still navigating Financial Fair Play pressures, and there is a growing sense that Villa could be open to negotiating a sale if the right offer arrives, particularly given their desire to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Inter Milan, who are leaders of the Serie A right now, meanwhile, are preparing for a potential transition of their own.

Current No.1 Yann Sommer has been outstanding since joining the club, but his contract expires at the end of the season, and the club’s hierarchy want to ensure a seamless succession plan.

Martínez fits the profile of goalkeeper Inter want, experienced, vocal, excellent in one-on-one situations, and capable of commanding a defensive line in high-pressure matches.

The Nerazzurri are also aware that Martínez has long desired a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs, and Serie A could offer him both a new challenge and a prestigious stage in the latter years of his career.

While no formal offer has yet been made, Inter are conducting internal assessments and financial modelling before deciding whether to advance negotiations with Aston Villa.

The Premier League side, for their part, continue to insist they are not actively looking to sell but the lack of clarity around Martínez’s intentions and Villa’s ongoing squad-building strategy mean the door remains open.
