Inter Set to Complete the Acquisition of Khalaili

Inter began pursuing Anan Khalaili shortly after missing out on Marco Palestra, quickly leapfrogging Napoli, who had been haggling with Union SG, and came to terms after a week-long negotiation.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the fullback has already landed in Italy. The Nerazzurri will invest €25M plus bonuses. A small resale clause has been included, bringing the package to around €30M.

Khalaili will pen a five-year contract, earning €2.2M per season. He’s replacing Denzel Dumfries, whom Real Madrid poached by activating his €20M release clause. The 21-year-old got his start at Maccabi Haifa and spent the last two seasons in Belgium. He has notched 8 goals and 11 assists in 99 appearances with his former team.

His father, Majdi, gave some insight on the transfer to Haaretz (via Calciomercato).

They needed a win after a couple of gut punches. It’s noteworthy that they went all-in on him and not more established names. After all, he and Palestra have a similar profile, with the big difference that one has already had success in Serie A, while the other was half as expensive.

It’ll be interesting to see whether they’ll consider selling Luis Henrique and sign a steady hand, for instance, Fiorentina’s Dodo, to be safe or if they’ll trust the young newcomer completely.
