Striker Mehdi Taremi admits that it won’t be easy for him to carve out playing time for himself at Inter Milan.

The Iranian spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after yesterday’s match against Lecce. That match was his first start for the Nerazzurri.

Taremi made his full debut for Inter in Serie A yesterday.

The 32-year-old was part of the Nerazzurri starting eleven, leading the line alongside Marcus Thuram.

Taremi did not manage to get himself on the scoresheet. However, he did set up Matteo Darmian for Inter’s opening goal.

A big reason why Taremi had the opportunity was an injury to Inter captain Lautaro Martinez.

The captain was absent due to some muscular fatigue. Therefore, Inter coach Inzaghi turned to summer signing Taremi.

But Martinez will not be out for long. The Argentine could even be back ready to play as soon as Inter’s match against Atalanta this Friday.

And once Martinez is back fit and available, it will become considerably harder for Taremi to earn a starting place for the Nerazzurri.

There will be no shortage of fixtures in which to get chances to play, either from the start or as a substitute.

Inter will be in action in Serie A, the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.

But there are not just Martinez and Thuram in the pecking order. Marko Arnautovic and, for the time being at least, Joaquin Correa also remain at Inter.

Taremi said of playing time that “It’s certainly not easy at a big club like Inter.”

“I try to do my best and help the team though,” the Iranian continued.

“It doesn’t matter who plays or doesn’t play,” Taremi said.

“There are huge stars here at Inter,” the former Porto striker continued. “Lautaro, Thuram, Arnautovic, and also Correa.”

Taremi said that “We have great attacking options.”

“And I’m just here to give my contribution.”
