Manchester City star Jeremy Doku has credited his commitment to religion for his continued rise at the Etihad Stadium this season.
The 23-year-old Belgium international has impressed consistently for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, with his performance against Liverpool in the recent 3-0 victory highlighting his growing influence in Manchester City’s attacking setup.
From dazzling dribbles to key contributions in build-up play, Jeremy Doku has quickly become one of the club’s most dynamic forwards and City’s 3-0 win on Sunday marked a statement performance for Guardiola’s side, moving them within four points of leaders Arsenal in the Premier League.
Erling Haaland set the tone with his 28th goal of the season for club and country before Doku added the finishing touch to Nico’s first-half strike, curling a sublime strike beyond Giorgi Mamardashvili to put the game beyond doubt.
The Belgium winger also played a crucial role in the penalty that led to Haaland’s earlier opportunity, which was saved by the Liverpool goalkeeper. And beyond his on-pitch output, Doku has been reflecting on the role his personal beliefs have played in his development.
Speaking post-match with reporters, Jeremy Doku credited his commitment to faith and religion when discussing his continued rise in performance.
“I feel like I just have confidence. What changed for me this season is I have got God in my life. I have his presence with me. I want to play without any fear or doubt or anything,” said Doku.
The Manchester City forward continued, “I’m 23 years old. I hope this is not my peak level. I hope I can still improve, improve my finishing, improve my movements in the box, improve my decision-making, improve on my awareness when I have the ball – a lot.
“This is an unfinished product and I hope with these team-mates, and a very good coach like Pep, I can still improve.”
And for Jeremy Doku, there is still a lot more to come from Manchester City this season, providing they remain focussed on their own improvement in performances and not watching their Premier League title rivals.
“We have been building and we know that we can still improve,” said Doku.
“We’re not really looking at Arsenal though, what the other teams are doing, because at the end of the day, we know that it depends only on us. And we know that if we are playing well, it’s difficult to stand next to us.”
Looking ahead, Jeremy Doku’s continued progression could see him play an increasingly central role in Manchester City’s domestic and European campaigns. His combination of pace, technical skill, and growing confidence in front of goal positions him as one of Pep Guardiola’s key offensive weapons.
With the Premier League and UEFA Champions League schedules set to intensify, maintaining this level of performance will be vital if Manchester City are to chase silverware across multiple competitions.
Fans will be keen to see whether Jeremy Doku can keep up his fine form and continue to contribute decisive moments in high-profile matches, while City’s coaching staff are likely to focus on refining his movement in the final third and decision-making under pressure.
