This season marks an election year at FC Barcelona. Joan Laporta and his board of directors are nearing the end of their term, and it is the president’s prerogative to call members with voting rights to the polls.
Although no decision has yet been made, Laporta is reportedly considering holding the elections in April next year, according to journalist David Bernabeu on SPORT.
As per the report, Laporta is said to be weighing this option so that the elections take place before the end of the season, while the club is still competing for titles.
By that time, Barcelona will still be in contention for all competitions, but nothing will have been decided.

This timing would ensure that the sporting results of Hansi Flick’s team, if they turned out to be unfavourable, would not influence members’ votes or penalise the current president of the Catalan club.
With Laporta seeking re-election, several Barcelona members are studying the possibility of running against him. Victor Font, runner-up in the last elections, is expected to do so.
Other members, including Joan Camprubi Montal, Xavi Vilajoana, and Marc Ciria, have also begun to make moves in recent months and weeks. All of them aim to be ready once Laporta officially announces the elections.
The same report states that Laporta’s campaign manager could be Jordi Cuminal, who already advised and was part of the current president’s team during the last presidential elections, which the Barcelona lawyer won in March 2021.
