Joao Gomes set for medical before Aston Villa move from Wolves | OneFootball

Joao Gomes is expected to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a £38 million move from Wolves to Aston Villa. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the deal would see the midfielder switch across the Midlands.

He left Wolves’ training camp in Portugal on Thursday to return to the UK after the clubs agreed terms, a fee that has frustrated some Wolves supporters who believe it is low.

Gomes’ exit had long been likely following Wolves’ relegation, with Atletico Madrid previously leading the chase before their interest cooled. Villa have stepped in as they look to reinforce midfield after selling Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and losing Amadou Onana to a long-term injury.

The Brazilian has made 130 appearances in all competitions since arriving from Flamengo in 2023 and is viewed as the ideal replacement for Onana. Villa are not stopping there.

They hope to complete the signing of 20-year-old Switzerland international Johan Manzambi from Freiburg later on Friday and are in talks with Bayern Munich over a possible loan for Joao Palhinha. Manzambi would replace Onana as Villa’s record buy in a deal set to exceed £50 million.

Tielemans joined United earlier this week for £35 million, while Lucas Digne is on course to join Paris Saint-Germain once he returns from World Cup duty with France.

Former Brighton left-back Pervis Estupinan, now at AC Milan, is being targeted as Digne’s replacement, with Unai Emery’s squad facing its biggest summer shake-up since his arrival.

Wolves are also expected to be active, with a replacement for Gomes a priority. Their summer signings so far are Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez and winger Rafiki Said.
