With the EFL over and the Premier League wrapping up, West Midlands clubs are deep in summer transfer talk, led by fresh claims over Joao Gomes and updates around Wolves, West Brom and Aston Villa.

Sky Sports reports a £39m agreement for Gomes to join Atletico Madrid, more than double the £16m Wolves paid in 2023, with a five-year deal mooted. talkSPORT adds that Valencia manager Carlos Corberan, formerly of West Brom, admires Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil and could move for him.

Gomes is widely expected to leave this summer following relegation, having been linked with several clubs. Wolves are also tracking goalkeeper Nikolas Polster, though the Wolfsberger player is said to favour Celtic, and Jose Sa is set to depart. Out-of-contract Neil, a promotion winner with Sunderland, also has interest from Coventry City.

Albion have again been linked with Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson after considering him in January, before he joined Millwall on loan and Max O’Leary arrived. O’Leary has been offered a new deal, and reports suggest Albion still want another keeper, with Coventry City viewed as front-runners for Patterson. Brighton winger Tommy Watson, signed for £10m, is reportedly available for loan, which may be ambitious for Albion but worth attempting.

Villa are said to hold strong interest in former Norwich midfielder Gabriel Sara, now at Galatasaray and valued at around 40 million euros after missing out on Brazil’s World Cup squad. Villa and Crystal Palace are also linked with Marseille’s Quinten Timber, 24, who joined from Feyenoord in January and started regularly in the second half of the season.
