João Neves stole the spotlight in PSG v Monaco after an awkward collision with the referee, a clip that raced around social media during the Champions League play-off. The European champions progressed.
According to DAZN Portugal, the incident unfolded on a Monaco break as Neves sprinted back to contest the ball. Referee István Kovács stood in his path and was knocked to the turf.
A post on X joked that when Neves is defending even the referee should move aside. The PSG midfielder also protested in the aftermath.
The moment quickly went viral, with fans linking it to a skateboarding meme where a boy tells a cameraman to get out of the way. Online, many dubbed it a get-out-of-Neves's-way moment.
Neves, valued at €110 million, has played 24 competitive matches for PSG this season. That includes 14 in Ligue 1, seven in the Champions League, one in the Intercontinental Cup, one in the Coupe de France and one in the French Super Cup. Across 1,834 minutes he has six goals and two assists.
