Johnny has been named in Flamengo’s squad to face Grêmio in the Brasileirão, replacing Alex Sandro who is serving an automatic suspension on Sunday 10.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the 19-year-old full-back is a regular starter for the under-20s and has won youth honours including the Copa Rio under-17 and the Carioca at the same level under Filipe Luís.

He began training with the seniors in that period and was listed in some 2025 squads, making his first-team debut in the final round of the Brasileirão away to Mirassol.

This season he started the opening Carioca matches while the senior group were in pre-season. He then sustained a shoulder injury against Bangu and spent time out recovering.

This is his first call-up under Leonardo Jardim. The teenager will look to impress in training to earn further opportunities under the Portuguese coach.

Johnny arrived in Porto Alegre on Friday 8 and trained with team-mates at Internacional’s training centre. He remained available for Saturday 9’s final session.

Flamengo visit Grêmio on Sunday 10 in the 15th round, with kick-off at 19:30 Brasília time in Porto Alegre. The match will be shown on pay-per-view channel Premiere.
