Flamengo will be without Jorginho for Saturday’s Campeonato Carioca match against Sampaio Correa at 21:00 after sustaining a thigh injury.

According to Globo.com, he felt muscle pain in his left thigh after the Supercopa meeting with Corinthians, and imaging during the week confirmed a lesion in the posterior area. The club has not provided a recovery timeline.

He had already missed Wednesday’s draw with Inter because he was suspended in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

He now joins Saúl, who is recovering from surgery on his left heel, and Luiz Araújo, who has muscle pain in his right thigh and remains unavailable.

Flamengo must win on Saturday to keep their hopes of reaching the Carioca quarter-finals alive. They also require at least one of the following results.

Madureira must lose to Volta Redonda at the Raulino de Oliveira, and Flamengo need to reduce their goal-difference deficit by three.

Boavista must lose to Bangu at Moça Bonita, and Flamengo need to cut the gap by two.

Alternatively, Nova Iguaçu must drop points against Portuguesa at the Luso-Brasileiro, with a draw or defeat enough.
