Jorginho suffers muscle injury and ruled out of Flamengo’s Libertadores opener

Jorginho has suffered a muscle injury and will miss Flamengo’s Libertadores opener against Cusco in Peru, according to Coluna Do Fla.

He left Sunday’s match against Santos with pain in his left calf, underwent an MRI on Monday that confirmed the problem, and has begun treatment with the club’s medical staff.

He will also be unavailable for the Fluminense fixture in the Brasileirão on Saturday, with no timeframe set for his return.

For the Cusco game, Leonardo Jardim has Evertton Araújo and Paquetá as midfield options. Erick Pulgar is also injured, and De La Cruz could be rested given his negative history at altitude.

Flamengo face Cusco in Peru on Wednesday at 21:30 Brasília time in their Libertadores bow.
