Despite having finalised four signings before the summer transfer window has even opened, Real Madrid are not resting on their laurels. New head coach Jose Mourinho has demanded further additions, with another centre-back, midfielder and winger on the agenda.

The likes of Nico Schlotterbeck, Enzo Fernandez and Michael Olise have been identified as Real Madrid’s ideal signings for the aforementioned positions, and if these deals were done, it would make their spending to record levels. Despite this, there could still be one or two further additions made, and one of those could be a number nine.

According to Diario AS, Mourinho is open to the idea of signing a target man striker, in the style of Real Madrid cult hero Joselu Mato. The Portuguese has made this known to the club’s sporting department, but for the time being, it is not considered to be a priority.

Joselu made a huge impact for Real Madrid during the 2023-24 season. Despite playing a largely residual role in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, he scored 18 goals across all competitions, including a brace against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final that set Los Blancos on their way to a 15th title in the competition.

Striker would only arrive if Gonzalo Garcia leaves

Because a new striker is not currently being prioritised, Mourinho has stopped La Fabrica graduate Gonzalo Garcia from leaving. However, plans could change in the coming weeks, and if the 22-year-old were to be allowed to depart, it would be almost certain that a replacement is brought in.

Given the success Joselu had, it would make sense for Real Madrid to sign a different profile to the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick Felipe. However, they already have that (kind of) with Gonzalo, who has been very impressive since he broke through during last summer’s Club World Cup.
