Josh Windass has called for the Championship play-offs to be restarted after Southampton were expelled from the final over unauthorised filming breaches.

The EFL said Southampton admitted multiple breaches and violated regulations requiring clubs to act with the utmost good faith and not observe an opponent’s training session within 72 hours of a match.

Middlesbrough have been reinstated to face Hull City at Wembley on Saturday 23 May.

Windass argued the entire play-off schedule should start again with the four other teams, adding that Middlesbrough against Hull would have formed one semi-final.

Southampton were first charged on Friday 8 May, with further charges issued on Sunday 17 May for additional breaches during the 2025-26 season. The admitted breaches relate to fixtures against Oxford United in December 2025, Ipswich Town in April 2026 and Middlesbrough in May 2026, the last ending 0-0 in the semi-final first leg.

Southampton are understood to be lodging an appeal today, which could affect Saturday’s final. A decision is also due today.

As things stand, the final is scheduled to kick off at 4:30pm on Saturday and will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football.
