The unsettled United forward is once again being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Having played just 92 minutes of football this season, the 24‑year‑old is reportedly growing frustrated with his situation. He is eager for more game time, hoping to catch the eye of Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Speculation over Zirkzee’s future has been rife, with various claims emerging about possible destinations and scenarios.

United stance: No exit in January

On Friday, reports suggested United had informed the striker there was “no chance” of a January departure.

That revelation should have silenced talk of a winter exit for the former Bologna man.

Fresh twist from Italy

Yet the chatter has not died down. In fact, it has intensified, with a fresh bombshell dropping from Italy.

While discussing AS Roma‘s interest, Italian outlet Leggo offered a striking update on the situation surrounding United’s No.11.

“The first signing Roma are looking to complete is Zirkzee,” wrote Leggo.

“Contacts with the Dutchman’s entourage are practically daily, and Manchester United are willing to negotiate a loan with an option to buy.

“Ferguson could make way for the former Bologna player, with the possibility of a loan move to Everton, Friedkin’s other club, being explored.”

Zirkzee: What next, and who replaces him?

United’s reported willingness to discuss a loan with an option to buy changes the landscape entirely.

Many clubs may have cooled their interest amid suggestions that United would block any exit. But if there is even a hint of flexibility, Roma’s party could be gatecrashed.

Other suitors, including West Ham United, may now be emboldened to challenge Roma for Zirkzee’s signature.

As the scramble intensifies, attention will turn to INEOS and how they respond to the striker’s potential departure.

Should Zirkzee leave, it has been suggested United could pursue ex‑Barcelona striker Vitor Roque as a replacement.
