Matt Law was on the London is Blue podcast today talking about Chelsea’s injury problems this season.
Despite the fact that we’ve got a lot of players coming back this week, Law isn’t confident about our chances going forward.

“They do carry a big squad, and that’s going to get tested. The Club World Cup is having a big impact. Going into that Liverpool game, 8 players out, 2 players go down so that’s ten players [out],” Law pointed out.
“The big plus is that Lavia back, but we know they’ve got to be careful with Lavia. I think Lavia is going to get the Reece James treatment, Fofana too. Reece pulled out of England duty… that’s got to be a little bit touch and go. Massive, massive injury problems.”

One person who could have helped out during this hectic period was striker Marc Guiu, recalled from loan at Sunderland before the window closed then mysteriously ignored by manager Enzo Maresca.
Asked about that, Law said he didn’t want to blame the coach without knowing more about what was going on behind the scenes:
“I’m reluctant to go in on Maresca over Guiu because we just don’t know what he sees in training, and Guiu wouldn’t have done a lot of work with the squad this summer, so maybe he just needs to get up to speed,” the Telegraph writer said.
“I think it’s too early to start throwing around conspiracy theories and accusations about how he should be used. It would be surprising if in the next run of games if he is completely ignored. He potentially just needed to get up to speed having back after the transfer window. But I get why people are talking about it.”
